CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — U.S. Rep. David McKinley, R-W.Va., has made it clear he doesn’t consider himself a career politician. Perhaps not, but he has proven to be a strong public servant.
A professional engineer and successful businessman, McKinley has a no-nonsense approach to problem-solving, using his analytical mind and down-home common sense to guide his decisions.
During his six years representing the First District, McKinley has been a strong advocate for economic development efforts, knowing their value in improving not only the business climate, but quality of life.
While he sees value in some of its provisions, he has also tried to head off the Affordable Care Act, known better as Obamacare, because he thinks it hurts the majority of West Virginians and small business with unwise mandates. He thinks there is a better way forward in terms of affordable healthcare and works diligently to promote that agenda.
As a fiscal conservative, he has worked to streamline government, keep taxes in check and demands that government spending be accounted for based on results, not legacy.
In past visits with The Exponent Telegram Editorial Board, as well as in his actions on a daily basis, McKinley has been a man of his word. He makes it clear what he stands for — and then he stands for it, with very little room for political waffling.
Now that doesn’t preclude him from trying to find bipartisan solutions, as any lawmaker should. Those unwilling to find middle ground are responsible for much of the gridlock that has stymied the country for far too long.
And as a loyal Mountaineer, he knows what’s best for the people of the Mountain State and isn’t afraid to stand up for them.
From day one of assuming office, McKinley has served West Virginians well. We think he deserves another term and encourage voters to support his re-election.
