HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — A pair of Huntington’s oldest and most well-known restaurants received separate yet simultaneous attention from national television networks on Tuesday.
A Food Network crew was at Midway West Drive-In while employees of the Cooking Channel were filming at Jim’s Steak and Spaghetti House.
The Food Network was filming an episode of a new series called “Guilty Pleasures” hosted by Milton native Katie Lee. The show features Food Network stars revealing their guilty pleasure foods; Lee’s is a Midway slaw dog and peanut butter milkshake.
The crowd at Midway Drive-In around noon was so large employees were directing traffic and conducting crowd control while taking customers’ orders. At one point, Midway co-owner William Ghiz had to announce there was no more room inside the restaurant.
“Out here on the lot it’s pretty jammed up now,” said Cory Hutchinson, who co-owns Midway Drive-In with Ghiz. “There are a lot of people in Huntington who have never eaten here. We have the best hot dogs, I think, in the world. Our burgers are freshly ground and patted every day. We have consistent good food.”
Margaret Mays, of Lavalette, said she often watches the Food Network, but a film crew taping a show at Midway is not what brought her to the restaurant…
