CLARKSBURG — Clarksburg City Council’s decision to settle with Councilman Zeke Lopez over a lawsuit he filed to block his removal from office will cost city taxpayers $50,000.

City council will vote Thursday night on a resolution to pay the settlement. The regular meeting begins at 7 p.m. in council chambers, Clarksburg Municipal Building, 222 W. Main St.

The money will come from the city’s general fund, City Manager Martin Howe said.

In March, council members voted to indemnify themselves in Lopez’s suit against them because the city’s insurer refused to cover them.

In addition to the financial settlement, Lopez will be reinstated to his position “with all of the benefits and responsibilities” for the remainder of his term, according to the resolution.

The matter stems from council’s Feb. 13 vote declaring Lopez’s conviction of misdemeanor domestic assault of his wife a crime of moral turpitude…
