Former editor of Logan, Madison newspapers dies

LOGAN, W.Va. — A former editor of both The Logan Banner and The Coal Valley News has passed away.

Timothy D. Kiger, 45, of Cecilia, died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2015, at his residence.

Survivors include his wife, Dee Kiger; two children, Kathryn and Patrick; and a brother, David Kiger.

“T.D.” Kiger was editor at the Logan Banner and worked for Community Newspaper Holdings, Inc. (CNHI) from 1990 to 2005. He was editor at Coal Valley News in Madison in Boone County from 2005 to 2011.

“I worked with Tim at the Logan Banner in the early 1990s,” said Logan Banner and Coal Valley News editor Fred Pace. “He was a very respected journalist and taught me so much about the newspaper business. I had remained friends with Tim on Facebook and he was a very good friend that always had the ability to make others laugh and put a smile on your face. He will be truly missed.”

Kiger left the newspaper industry and became a team leader for AT&T from 2012 to 2014. He was working for CompuCom Systems, Inc. as an operations analyst from March 2014 until he died…
