BLUEFIELD, W.Va. — Bluefield Daily Telegraph Editor Samantha Perry has been named “Columnist of the Year” in the national Best of CNHI 2015 editorial contest.
It is the second consecutive year that Perry has won the “Columnist of the Year” award.
The contest recognizes the individual and collective achievements of the company’s journalists. The competition was judged by a panel of nine CNHI editors and news executives.
In announcing the Division 1 award, the judges said Perry is a “gifted storyteller who grabs readers by the lapels with the first sentence.” The judges added, “She tackles interesting topics, offering insights and a unique perceptive. But the attribute that sets her apart is unique reporting. She writes about records requests, interviews and material she’s developed independently for her column, setting her apart and creating a standard that others should follow…
