Charleston, W.Va. – The West Virginia Coal Association today expressed strong support for U.S. Senator Jim Justice (R-WV) and Senator Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) in introducing a bipartisan congressional resolution designating December 6, 2025, as National Miners Day to honor our nation’s coal miners.
“We are deeply grateful to Senator Justice for championing this important resolution that recognizes the sacrifices and vital contributions of our coal miners,” said Chris Hamilton, President and CEO of the West Virginia Coal Association. “West Virginia’s coal miners power America with reliable, affordable energy and produce the metallurgical coal essential for the steel that builds our infrastructure, vehicles, and defenses – their hard work embodies the grit and dedication that keeps our country strong.”
The resolution, co-sponsored by a broad coalition including Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), Steve Daines (R-MT), and others from across the political spectrum, encourages participation in activities celebrating miners’ role in local communities and the national economy. It highlights the foundational role coal miners play in powering homes, industries, and infrastructure nationwide.
