WVPA Sharing: Kids and families day at the Legislature

Our Children, Our Future to rally with kids and families

 CHARLESTON, W.Va.  —  The Our Children, Our Future Campaign will hold its annual Kids and Families Day at the state Capitol on Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014.

More than 500 kids and families representing labor, faith, and community organizations are scheduled to attend.  After kicking the day off with a press conference, children and families will engage in activities including delivering family photos to the Governor’s Office, attending meetings with legislators, and distributing pay stubs demonstrating the need for a higher minimum wage.

Senate President Kessler and Delegate Nancy Guthrie will speak alongside families directly affected by the issues.  Issues from the 2014 Platform range from cuts to Family Resource Networks, increasing the minimum wage, and physical education in schools will be discussed.

The event is set for the State Capitol Complex, Lower Rotunda on  Tuesday at 10:30 AM

There will also be a separate press conference including discussion of the Campaign’s 2013 efforts, WV DHHR Secretary Bowling discussing Medicaid Expansion and Senate Majority Leader John Unger discussing the Feed to Achieve Act. That is set for  9 a.m. in the Governor’s Press Conference Room.
