Small Business Saturday saw big turnout in West Virginia this year, positive outlook for small business

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Shop Small Saturday is one of the biggest days for small businesses across the country, and West Virginia’s small businesses reaped the benefits, according to experts.

Across the state, chambers of commerce, Main Street organizations and other economic development groups held promotions and special community events to draw shoppers out to local businesses on Nov. 26.

In Morgantown, Main Street Morgantown had shoppers downtown for holiday shopping from morning until night thanks to different events.

“Downtown (Small Business Saturday) was a pretty vibrant day. We had a Small Business Saturday hub at the old Montgomery Ward building across from our courthouse square. We had the Hotel Morgan sponsor a cookie and cocoa station, which was free for families,” said Amy Loomis, interim executive director of Main Street Morgantown and vice president of revitalization services for the Morgantown Area Partnership…
