CHARLESTON, W.Va. — One week remains in the pre-registration period for Capital High School’s ‘Band on the Run’ 5K event.

Runners can ensure their unique T-shirt, featuring a design by a Capital High School band student, and a discounted rate by registering early for the run/walk at http://www.tristateracer.com/RaceDirector/race.php?RaceID=7555

The run/walk — sponsored by the Pride of Capitol High Band Boosters and the City of Charleston — is a fund-raiser for Capital High School’s band program.

The band boosters challenge other bands and band alumni in the region to support the event. The organizers said the run/walk is designed to be fun for everyone and suggest bringing the entire family to the race: “Healthy kids make happy kids.”

The race starts at 9 a.m. April 11 but pre-registration ends March 24. Participants can continue to register after March 24 through the day of the race.

The 5K run/walk and one-mile fun run for kids 12 and under starts at the University of Charleston in Kanawha City. The course begins and ends at the East Visitors’ Parking Lot and is a “flat, easy course that gives participants a run through local neighborhoods with views of the river through the beautiful city of Charleston,” said organizers, who noted that the course will be marked and there will be traffic control at the major intersections.

Entry fees are as follows: Pre-Registration – Run is $20 and Fun Run is $8; Late/Day of Race: Run is $25 and Fun Run is $12; Capital High School students rate is $15 . There is no guarantee for T-shirts for late registrants. Deadline for pre-registration is March 24.

The age groups and divisions are as follows: Runners and walkers; male and female; ages, 14-20, 20-30, 30-40, 40-50, 50-60, 60-70, 70 and older. There is also a wheelchair fun run and children 12 & under event. Awards will be given for best time for each age group, male and female – walkers and runners.
