MEDIA ADVISORY: Nuffield Scholars program bringing international farmers to WVU

WHO: Nuffield International Farming Scholars, West Virginia University Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design faculty and staff, West Virginia Natural Resources Conservation Service officials, state and local agricultural leaders 

WHAT: A seven-day tour of West Virginia agricultural industries, WVU research initiatives, farms and facilities for 11 Nuffield Scholars.

WHEN: July 9-16

WHERE: WVU Natural Resources Center, WVU Animal Science and Organic Farms, agricultural operations in Brooke, Marshall, Monongalia and Preston Counties 

The Nuffield Scholars program awards scholarships to approximately 50 young agriculturalists from 12 countries each year. The program provides scholars with the opportunity to make international connections and explore production agriculture, agribusiness, agricultural policy and related topics in different parts of the world.

Wednesday (July 10) noon to 2 p.m., WVU Natural Resources Center

The Nuffield Scholars will meet with WVU and state leaders to discuss the state’s agricultural vision for the future. As part of the discussion, the following individuals will present:

  • Ken Blemings, interim dean for the WVU Davis College
  • Sue Day-Perroots, interim dean for WVU Extension Service
  • Joe Hatton, deputy commissioner for West Virginia Department of Agriculture
  • Brian Farkas, executive director for West Virginia Conservation Agency
  • Louis Aspey, state conservationist for West Virginia Natural Resources Conservation Service
