Hatfield McCoy Trails announces opening of two new trail systems: Braveheart and Big Coal River

MAN, W.Va. — The Hatfield McCoy Regional Recreation Authority is proud to announce the opening of two exciting new additions to its world-renowned network of off-road trails: the Braveheart Trail System, located in the Man area of Logan County, and the Big Coal River Trail System, situated in the Peytona area of Boone County.

These new trail systems expand the Hatfield McCoy Trails’ offerings for off-road enthusiasts, providing even more scenic, challenging, and family-friendly riding opportunities in southern West Virginia.

  • The Braveheart Trail System offers visitors a chance to explore the natural beauty of the area and access to three other trails, Rockhouse, Devil Anse and Buffalo Mountain.
  • The Big Coal River Trail System, located in the historic Peytona area, brings thrilling trails, breathtaking views and new possibilities for adventure and economic development to Boone County and the region.

“We’re excited to bring these two trail systems online and offer more opportunities for outdoor recreation and tourism,” said Jeffrey Lusk, Executive Director of the Hatfield McCoy Trails. “Braveheart and Big Coal River are more than just trails — they’re gateways to exploration and economic revitalization for our communities.”
