CHARLESTON – The Contractors Association of West Virginia (CAWV) issued the following statement in response to Governor Patrick Morrisey’s State of the State Address delivered on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2026:
“Governor Morrisey really hit a home run last night with his highlights on enhancing and improving all the things that West Virginians look for in their quality of life. We applaud the Governor for his ongoing commitment to infrastructure, particularly our state’s roads, bridges, and state parks.
Moreover, workforce recruitment and retention is one of our biggest challenges, and any additional focus on vocational and technical training in the construction trades is welcome news to the industry. These initiatives, combined with the three pillars of emphasis proposed by the leadership of the House of Delegates on skills training and workforce development; responsible economic growth; and job creation, the 2026 regular session has already started off on the right path.
We stand ready to work with lawmakers in both the House of Delegates and Senate on CAWV’s commitment to building a better West Virginia.”
