Concert benefits Music & Memory Program

ELKINS, W.Va. – The Elkins Rehabilitation & Care Center will host a benefit concert on Sunday for its recently launched Music & Memory program.

‘The Melody Lingers On’ concert event will be held at the Randolph County Community Arts Center and will begin at 2 p.m. The benefit is part of ERCC’s effort to raise awareness about and funds for the the Music & Memory program, which is a national program that utilizes personalized iPods and playlists to help eldercare residents reconnect with memories that may have been buried by Alzheimer’s Disease, dementia, and other challenges.

Tickets are available in advance and at the door.  Reservations, although not required but recommended, may be made by calling the Randolph County Community Arts Center at 304.637.2355 or ERCC at 304.636.1391.

ERCC Expressive Arts Therapist Linda Zimmer has been working with local musicians and the Randolph County Community Arts Center to make the ‘Melody Lingers On’ fundraising concert a reality.

“Although the national Music & Memory organization provides a start-up kit of a few iPods and headphones, we must reach out to the community to help make this amazing, powerful program available to all of our residents,” Zimmer said. “Personalized music not only fulfills part of ERCC’s mission to deliver comfort and quality care, this program also gives residents the ability to experience nostalgic moments and joyful memories with just one click of a button.”

The benefit concert will feature popular local musicians Don Olson, Michael and Carrie Kline, and Connie Townsend, Dave Parker and Seth Maynard of the Ginsangers. Expect a musical mix of blues, jazz, flat-picking, folk, and high mountain harmonies.

All proceeds from the event will go directly to the expansion of the Music & Memory program at ERCC.
