BIC heads to Morgantown for energy-focused regional event

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The West Virginia Business & Industry Council will continue its annual tour around the state when it heads to Morgantown on Aug. 16.

The regional meeting, “Putting West Virginia Back to Work: Our Energy Future”, will put a special focus on West Virginia’s energy economy with the assistance of Longview Power and other energy industry leaders.WV BIC Logo

In addition, the agenda will include discussions about the state’s opportunities for growth following two years of pro-growth legislative sessions. The regional meeting also will feature a gubernatorial forum with invited major party candidates Bill Cole and Jim Justice.

“Our regional meetings offer local economic development and business leaders the chance to connect with BIC members and show us what their region’s challenges and opportunities are,” said BIC Chairman Chris Hamilton. “At the same time, we are able to bring the state’s top leaders to them for a dynamic, productive dialogue about how to move West Virginia forward.”

Jeff Keffer, president and chief executive officer of Longview Power, said the company is eager to address BIC and West Virginia’s north-central business community to provide an update on clean-coal power generation.

“Many claim that coal cannot be a ‘clean’ fuel for generating electricity and that its days are numbered,” Keffer said. “We at Longview Power, based here in West Virginia, disagree. On a daily basis the Longview Power plant reliably produces very low-cost electricity for more than 500,000 homes using proven clean coal technologies.”

The  meeting will begin with a luncheon at noon at Lakeview Resort, and a detailed agenda will be available soon. The meeting is open to the public but space is limited and advanced registration is required. Email [email protected] to register.

The West Virginia Business & Industry Council’s goal is to enhance the business climate in West Virginia, and its members have been working to that end for more than three decades.
