House advances West Virginia Supreme Court budget oversight resolution

CHARLESTON, W.Va.  — The West Virginia House of Delegates will vote Friday on a resolution that would bring the state Supreme Court under the Legislature’s control.

Senate Joint Resolution 3 proposes a constitutional amendment for the Legislature to have sole authority to determine the court’s budget.

Thursday, the House adopted an amendment to the resolution which held that the judiciary’s budget would not be decreased by more than 10 percent compared to the prior year’s appropriation without a separate vote requiring two-thirds majority from each house.
