Well-trained nurses should be able to provide care

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — In a state that has plenty of rural areas, many of which are under served by health care professionals, a bill sitting in the Government Organization Committee would make for a great law.

House Bill 4334 would allow advanced practice registered nurses to prescribe medication and treat patients without needing a doctor’s authorization.

The bill, which is similar to one introduced last year that received little attention, is drawing wide-ranging support from a diverse group of consumers. Groups that seldom agree on legislation appear to support the bill because it’s good common sense legislation that will help state residents.

“West Virginia needs this because there are too many areas in our state that are medically underserved, there are too many people that have to travel too far to get the medical care they desperately need,” Gary Zuckett told the Charleston Gazette Mail…
