Testing for all patients, employees started today

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (April 5, 2020) – A patient of Eastbrook Center, a skilled nursing facility, in Charleston, has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.
The individual has been transferred to a local hospital and the family has been notified. Precautions are in place to best safeguard fellow patients and employees.
“While this news was not what we hoped for, it is most definitely what we have prepared for,” said Larry Pack, Chief Executive Officer of Stonerise Healthcare. “We remain focused on protecting all other residents and employees and will work tirelessly to maintain a safe and loving environment for those we serve.”
The safety and health of all patients, employees and their families is a priority and Eastbrook Center is working closely with local, state and federal health officials and following protocols from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC) has agreed to administer COVID-19 tests to all patients and employees at Eastbrook Center beginning Monday, April 6, 2020.
“During this difficult time, know that our hearts are with the patients and staff at Eastbrook,” Pack said. “Please know that our team is working tirelessly to provide the best care for each and every Eastbrook patient.”
Limited visitation protocols have been in place within each of the 17 skilled nursing facilites supported by Stonerise Healthcare across West Virginia since March 13, 2020. Limited visitor access means no individual, regardless of reason, is allowed to enter a facility, except under specific circumstances. Visitors should be aware of the following guidelines:
- Only employees, individuals directly providing end-of-life care to a resident, family members of a patient that is experiencing a life-threatening health condition, or individuals providing essential services to the skilled nursing facility are permitted to enter the facility.
- If an individual falls into one of the four groups above, but is exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 or has a high risk of exposure to COVID-19, as determined in accordance with guidelines issued by the Centers for Disease Control, that individual will not be permitted to enter the facility.
- All visitors will be escorted to and from patients’ rooms and must wash their hands upon entry.
- All visitors will enter facilities through one locked point of entry and exit.
