BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — The Barbara B. Highland Charitable Trust presented a $5.2 million donation to West Virginia University Thursday at the Bridgeport Conference Center.
“The Barbara Highland Foundation is giving a major donation to the university of $5.2 million to be divided between our law school and our medical school, and it’s a significant contribution to the university at a time in which we are most grateful to receive it,” WVU President E. Gordon Gee said.
The contribution by the Highland Foundation will help make both the College of Law and the School of Medicine at WVU more attractive and more competitive, as well as increase the university’s ability to support students, faculty and programs, Gee said.
“Donors are so important because the difference between good and great for a university is the private donations,” he said.
Marcia Broughton, a trustee for the Barbara B. Highland Charitable Trust, said WVU was chosen for the donation because Barbara Highland felt so strongly about it’s mission.
