CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Shane Lyons, the deputy athletic director at the University of Alabama, is expected to be named the next athletic director at West Virginia, sources told the Charleston Daily Mail on Sunday.
According to multiple sources, Lyons, who has his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from WVU, met with university president E. Gordon Gee and others on campus in Morgantown over the weekend. Lyons was accompanied by his wife, a Wisconsin graduate, and two children, one a sophomore in high school and one in sixth grade.
The significance there is this was the second time Gee and Lyons met to discuss the job. Gee visited Lyons in Parkersburg, where Lyons is from, late last month.
The meeting this time, though, was more formative, and word started to spread late Sunday that Lyons had seen and heard enough to accept the offer and be announced as soon as Monday…
