FAIRLEA, W.Va. — Avery Vonderheid has faithfully attended the State Fair of West Virginia since she was a little girl.
Like many, Vonderheid says the fair holds a special place in her heart, as she’s made countless memories and friends through the years.
But her memories are probably just a bit different than those of the average fairgoer.
“I was born into the carnival business,” the 25-year-old said, explaining her grandfather Bob Boling owned Midsouth Shows for 30 years and her mom Teresa has traveled with Reithoffer Shows for more than 30.
As a youngster, Vonderheid spent nine months out of each year on the road, attending school offered by the carnival, before returning home to Florida where she enrolled in public school for three months during the offseason.
