CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — The West Virginia PROMISE Scholarship program has provided approximately $400 million to 35,000 students from every county in West Virginia. Recently, there have been concerns that the program would be impacted by budget cuts, but officials say that’s not what the future holds.
“In 2015, the PROMISE Scholarship was utilized by 3,238 first-time freshmen,” said Jessica Tice, associate vice chancellor for communications and public affairs with the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission. “Currently, there are 3,300 students eligible for the fall of 2016, but that number is expected to rise. These numbers do not include scholarship renewals.”
