IDAMAY, W.Va. — “It’s a substantial problem.”
That’s how Division of Natural Resources officer Randall Kocsis describes illegal dumping in Marion County.
Since joining the force a few years ago, Kocsis said there has been a consistent problem in Marion County with people dumping solid waste such as tires, trash, furniture, animal carcasses and other items along roads, in woods and into valleys.
Although most complaints are for roadside litter and cigarette butts, often complaints come in to the DNR office of larger dump sites, according to Kocsis.
“A lot of the dumps are community dumps where families or neighbors have gotten together and over years pitched tons of garbage and trash over a hillside,” Kocsis said.
Kocsis named several sites across Marion County where illegal dumping has taken place over the years. He said they take every call about illegal dumping seriously and investigate dump sites for evidence…
