Wayne County assessor jailed after bond revocation

WAYNE, W.Va. — A Wayne County magistrate revoked bail for Wayne County Assessor Eric L. Hodges and ordered him back to jail Monday.

Hodges, who has been charged with improperly using county funds for personal purchases, was returned to the Western Regional Jail in Barboursville following a bond revocation hearing in magistrate court.

Hodges had been incarcerated at the Central Regional Jail in Sutton after being arrested Saturday on additional Wayne County charges.

 Magistrate John Cavins also denied defense counsel’s request that Hodges’ bond be reinstated at $100,000 with the addition of home confinement.

The revocation hearing was requested Friday by special prosecuting attorney Mark Sorsaia of Putnam County after it was learned Hodges faced new criminal charges and may have violated conditions of his bond.

“This case can be described as bizarre,” Sorsaia said. “Hodges’ behavior shows he does not have the ability to comply with the rules of his bond and that he is going to do what he wants. It indicates something is wrong…
