W.Va. teen hit by lightning, lived to tell millions

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — Robert C. Byrd High School graduate Zach Sandy, who was struck by lightning in the summer of 2012 and believed to be dead, miraculously started breathing 30 minutes after the strike.

Zach has been sharing his story of faith and healing with churches and groups around the East Coast. But now, he will get the opportunity to tell millions of people around the world how God saved his life when he appears on “The 700 Club” Thursday morning. It also will be available continuously oncbn.com.

The Christian Broadcasting Network spent about 10 hours with the family, including at their home, their church and the camp where it happened.

Zach was on a softball field in Parkersburg when a bolt of lightning entered his head and shot through his body, melting his two shirts together and blowing his pants off, before it left his body through the bottom of his feet.

He lay dead on the ground, locked and rigid with his hair standing on end, according to his father Russell “Bud” Sandy.

Witnesses and first responders attempted CPR, but there were no signs of life, and smoke was rolling out of Zach’s nose and mouth, his father said.

Zach was placed in the ambulance with little hope of survival, according to his father. Minutes later, the ambulance doors swung open, and someone said that Zach had come back to life after 30 minutes…
