LOGAN, W.Va. — Town of Man Mayor Jim Blevins decided a few years back that he should build something to honor Logan County’s veterans, and he has been hard at work since then in creating a beautiful monument that sits right outside of town limits.
“I just wanted to build something to honor the veterans of Man… of Logan County,” Blevins said.
Blevins said the idea came to him after he saw what a wonderful veterans’ memorial they have in Charleston.
“I don’t really have an estimated completion time,” Blevins said. “It just depends on how soon I can get it funded. I’m hoping to have it finished by the end of the summer.”
The memorial stands on a hill right outside of town limits. The hill is named Freedom Hill. What now consists of a brick wall and an American flag still has quite a bit of work to go before it is finished. Blevins said the project is short about $15,000, a smaller chunk of the estimated $45,000 it will cost in full.
Citizens have the option of sponsoring a solid granite “brick” to help pay for the memorial…
