SHINNSTON, W.Va. — The Shinnston Fire Department was recognized by the Shinnston City Council for its success in spearheading collections for the flood efforts in southern West Virginia at Monday’s meeting.
“They collected $2.4 million worth of money and supplies. It ran for about 15 days and there were people working 12 to 18 hours a day taking donations,” Vice Mayor Pat Kovalck said.
Mayor Sam DeMarco said that they were extremely organized and that council wanted them to know how much they appreciated the department representing the city.
