MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia University’s athletic department was hit with two years probation for more than 350 violations of NCAA recruiting rules.
The probation began Wednesday and runs through Feb. 17, 2017.
The violations were committed by 14 sports over a period of 31 months and were termed “significant breaches of conduct” by the NCAA.
Most of the violations were committed in women’s gymnastics, football, women’s basketball and women’s soccer. They were termed Level II violations.
The violations in the other 10 sports were termed Level III.
Rifle and cross country were the only sports not cited in the infraction report.
The infraction report was released Wednesday afternoon, disclosing WVU self-reported violations that included 66 impermissible telephone calls and 294 impermissible text messages from June 2010 to February 2013…
