HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Local workers from Huntington and Portsmouth gathered outside area establishments to protest as part of the “Fight for $15” campaign, which aims to raise wages and support unions for those living on minimum wage across the nation.
“Fight for $15” implemented a nationwide protest at fast-food establishments and city halls on Nov. 10, one year before the presidential election, to bring attention to its platform of a federal minimum wage of $15 and union rights. Over 270 cities were scheduled to participate, according to Service Employees International Union District 1199.
Starting at 9 a.m. Tuesday, 10 representatives stood outside the McDonald’s in the first block of 5th Avenue in Huntington. The Portsmouth protest started at noon at Portsmouth City Hall.
