CHARLESTON, W.Va. — While official paperwork has yet to be filed, Delegate Amanda Pasdon, R-Monongalia, may soon be the first Republican to enter West Virginia’s little talked about secretary of state race.
Pasdon, who currently serves as chairwoman of the House Education Committee, is one of several Republicans being recruited by party officials to unseat Democratic Secretary of State Natalie Tennant in next year’s election.
Party officials would not confirm the existence of a candidate shortlist that includes Pasdon and other lawmakers, but the three-term delegate told the Daily Mail she’s interested in the job.
“It certainly has been mentioned to me,” she said when asked if party officials have contacted her about running. “More in passing, but I’m honored and humbled that people think I’m up for it.”
Pasdon, who has never run for a state office, likely won’t command the same name recognition in a head-to-head with Tennant, the state’s chief election officer since 2008.
