BECKLEY, W.Va. — The United Way of Southern West Virginia and The Summit Bechtel Reserve teamed up Tuesday to keep local families warm this winter.
Boy Scouts spokesman Gary Harley said crews have been working to clear 120 miles of walking, hiking and biking trails at the Summit, clearing felled trees and splitting the logs into firewood.
“We reached out to the United Way to identify families who heat with wood and who may be in need of extra fire wood to stay warm this winter,” he said.
Margaret Ann O’Neal, executive director of the United Way of Southern West Virginia, said wood has been delivered to three families in Fayette County, and four more families reached out Tuesday for assistance.
