WELCH, W.Va. — Filming for the motion picture “The Glass Castle” will be taking place Friday in Welch, and local residents are invited to be part of the action.
Based on the 2005 memoir by Jeannette Walls, “The Glass Castle” details the life of Walls and her siblings growing up in poverty in a dysfunctional family. Many of the years were spent in Welch, her father’s hometown.
The filming in Welch will be for a football game scene, according to the West Virginia Film Office. Participants are asked to wear maroon and white colored clothing, show up no later than 4:30 p.m. at Vic Nystrom Stadium and be available, rain or shine, until 8:30 p.m. Anyone under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
“The Glass Castle” received critical acclaim, spending 261 weeks on The New York Times best seller list. During a visit to Bluefield in 2007, Walls told Prerogative magazine that she believed the book apppealed to a lot of people “because it’s a realization that parents aren’t perfect…
