CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A team consisting of BBL Carlton, ZMM Architects and national firm tvsdesign is the winning design team for the Charleston Civic Center renovations, city council learned Monday.
The team was one of three finalists for the renovations and was selected based on recommendations from Odell Associates, the consulting firm for the Civic Center project, and the Civic Center design team selection committee.
“This is a great milestone in our project,” City Manager David Molgaard said.
The other two finalists were a team consisting of Pray Construction, PJ Dick and Silling Associates; and a team consisting of GBM Construction, Bastian and Harris Architects and Scarrow Construction. Each of those teams will receive $100,000 for their work and the city will get to keep the designs.
City council will still need to approve a formal contract with BBL Carlton, ZMM Architects and tvsdesign, which Molgaard said should be prepared by late May or early June. That contract will have a more refined concept of the future of the Civic Center.
If everything goes on schedule, the Civic Center renovations could be complete by Jan. 1, 2018, though some striking visible changes could happen in as little as a year from now…
