BECKLEY, W.Va. — At 9 a.m. on Sundays most people are either getting ready for church or listening to the trumpets as “Sunday Morning” on CBS airs.
That wasn’t the case Sunday at Beckley’s Leisure Lanes bowling alley, where more than 100 people turned out to either participate in or watch the 11th annual West Virginia State Bowling USBC Open Championship.
Beckley is hosting the tournament for four weekends in April, said Robert Houk, director of the tournament.
“This is an opportunity for bowlers to come together and see who the best single and double bowlers are,” he said, where bowlers between 18 to 88 years old from three states — West Virginia, Maryland and Ohio — come to vie for the title.
