BECKLEY, W.Va. — The time between a heart attack or stroke and getting a patient to advanced health care is critical. The Beckley region now has another option for quick transport to a Level 1 trauma center.
Air Evac Lifeteam held its grand opening Wednesday at 163 Care Drive in the Prosperity Dip.
Air Evac began in 1985 in a small Missouri community. The company has grown into the largest independently owned and operated air ambulance service in the U.S., with 126 bases in 15 states, according to company media release.
The company operates with memberships. Members can buy in for $65 a year, or a 25-year membership for $1,100. Air Evac will accept the insurance payment for a flight to a health care facility, leaving the patient with no out of pocket expenses, according to membership sales manager Mary Rader.
That $65 goes a long way.
