MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — After leaving the program in 2007, Rich Rodriguez is expected to be back as the WVU Football head coach, per ESPN’s Pete Thamel on social platform X Wednesday.
Rodriguez coached WVU from 2001-07, accumulating six winning seasons and three bowl game wins. He was awarded Big East Coach of the Year twice.
Rodriguez’s last game at WVU was a 13-9 upset loss to the University of Pittsburgh, which eliminated the Mountaineers from the College Football Championship game. He took a vacant job at the University of Michigan where he remained before being fired in 2010.
After a one-year break from coaching to work as a CBS Sports analyst, Rodriguez became the head coach of the University of Arizona. He accumulated five winning seasons with three bowl game wins.
Rodriguez was fired from Arizona in 2018 after a three-month internal investigation into a sexual harassment claim made against him. The investigation found the claim could not be substantiated, according to a release from the University.
