With back-to-school shopping kicking off, families have a chance to start early and pick up free school backpacks at two events this weekend in Charleston and Mingo County.
Two Verizon Wireless stores will give away hundreds of free backpacks on Sunday.
Round Room LLC, a Verizon authorized retailer, will host its 14th annual “School Rocks Backpack Giveaway” events where hundreds of families are expected to line up to receive a free backpack.
Occurring at more than 1,200 stores nationwide, Round Room will give away more than $3 million worth of backpacks to students across the country, according to a news release from the company. Since the event’s inception, Round Room has been able to provide more than 1.5 million children with a backpack.
Families expect to spend an average of $922 this year and 47% plan to spend more than they did last year, according to research firm PwC.
No registration is required for Sunday’s events. Any leftover backpacks will be donated to local schools of each store’s choice, according to the release.
