CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Lottery revenues continued to slide in September, but Thursday’s Lottery Commission meeting outlined a few glimmers of hope, including the launch of a new online game early next year.

West Virginia will join the multi-state online game, Monopoly Millionaires’ Club, tentatively in time for the Jan. 10 drawing, Lottery director John Musgrave said.

Currently, 22 states and Washington, D.C., offer the Monopoly-themed game, with West Virginia expected to join eight other states launching the game in 2015.

Nikki Orcutt, Lottery marketing director, said the game will have $5 tickets and is designed to have multiple million-dollar winners to avoid the “jackpot fatigue” of Powerball and Mega Millions, which only get extensive play when jackpots exceed $100 million.

“This game is designed to have a top prize between $15 million and $25 million,” she said. “The goal of the game is to create hundreds of millionaires.”

 According to the game rules, a jackpot win will trigger at least 10 and potentially hundreds of $1 million winning tickets…
