State panel reverses itself on Fayette school plan

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The School Building Authority of West Virginia (SBA) voted unanimously Monday to approve Fayette Superintendent Terry George’s amendment to the Comprehensive Educational Facilities Plan.

This decision allows Fayette County to present an application for funding alongside other counties today, but does not guarantee funding.

“I’m pleased they are at least giving Mr. (Fayette Superintendent Terry) George a chance to present his plan,” said parent Shawn Sparks. “His plan not only gets kids out of condemned buildings but helps make us sustainable, not continually dumping money we don’t have into Band-Aids.”

The question on many parents’ minds is if Fayette County’s application for funding will receive unbiased consideration when money is allocated in December.
