Low gas prices lead to rise in WV turnpike tolls

BECKLEY, W.Va. — Toll revenues continue to trend upward, attributable largely to lower gasoline prices, according to a report given to the West Virginia Parkways Authority Thursday at Tamarack.

Passenger car transactions were up 4.1 percent for the first quarter, with truck transactions up 2.1 percent. Toll revenue is up 4 percent overall.

 Cars were responsible for $3.5 million in parkways revenue, while trucks accounted for  a nearly identical number in September.

Parkways Executive Director Greg Barr said he believes travel increased over the period because of continued low gasoline prices.

Barr also announced that the authority’s Moody’s rating is Aa3, one of the highest ratings among toll roads in surrounding states…
