LOGAN, W.Va. — Logan’s own chess genius, Advait “Adi”Patel, has brought a first to West Virginia following his win at the 2014 Barber Tournament of K-8 Champions in Orlando, Fla. The tournament is a US Chess Federation state affiliate championship where state champions compete for the title of Barber K–8 Champion of Champions.
Adi won the 2014 Barber Tournament of K-8 Champions for West Virginia with a clear first in five out of six rounds. The participants included a record nine chess Masters.
Adi was born in India and moved to the US when he was very young. Adi and his parents, Ruhi and Rapal, lived in Logan until earlier this year when fire ripped through the attic of the Subway restaurant run by the Patel family on Sat., March 1.
Although the Patel family is currenlty living in Oklahoma, Logan is still extremely proud of his accomplishments and the honor he has brought to the community. Needless to say, Adi’s parents are also extremely proud of their son’s accomplishment.
“So happy… my champ did it!” Adi’s mother posted to her Facebook. “He won one of the most prestigious tournaments where only the state champions compete with each other and he got the title for West Virginia! So proud!”
