Fairmont teacher suspended for ‘security breaches’

FAIRMONT — The Marion County Board of Education has suspended a teacher for 30 days who is accused of committing security breaches while administering the WESTEST in the spring.

By a vote of four in favor and one abstention, the BOE approved the 30-day suspension of East Fairmont Middle School teacher Crystal Adkins. At the time of the alleged breech, Price said that Adkins was a teacher at Mannington Middle School and transferred to EFMS during the summer months. Superintendent of Schools Gary Price said that the suspension includes only school days and that the suspension would last through December but could be renewed pending conclusion of an investigation and hearings on the state education department level.

Voting in favor of the suspension were Babette Simms, Mary Jo Thomas, Janet Crescenzi and Tom Dragich. Abstaining was BOE President Richard Pelligrin.
