Bridge Day activities start with parachuting team

BECKLEY, W.Va. — With more activities than year’s past offered Saturday in conjunction with Bridge Day 2015, visitors may want to pick up a copy of the official Bridge Day poster and a little bit of West Virginia art to remember the excitement.

This year’s poster features the artwork of Tamarack Artisan Kathy Welch, a self-taught painter who was born and raised in West Virginia.

 Welch said she finds inspiration for her paintings from her surroundings, and her inspiration for the New River Gorge painting was her daughter’s wedding. Her daughter, who now lives in Texas, came home to get married at a rustic lodge, perched atop a mountain that overlooks the New River Gorge Bridge, which captured her attention and sparked her inspiration.
