MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — State Delegate Larry W. Faircloth, R-Berkeley, has announced he will not seek re-election to the West Virginia House of Delegates. Rather, he said he will run for state treasurer.
“If elected as West Virginia State Treasurer, my first action in that office will be to order an immediate internal legislative audit of the division. If there is any waste in that agency, we will find it,” Faircloth said in a news release announcing his candidacy.
“Secondly, we will make sure the office works for the people of West Virginia, and not the interests of political parties by establishing a streamlined approach to transparency and accessibility for the public,” he said.
Faircloth, 44, of Inwood, was first elected to the House in 2012 and was re-elected in 2014. He represents the 60th district, which includes nearly all of southern Berkeley County and most of west-central Berkeley County.
He serves on the Interstate Cooperation, Government Organization, Health, Senior Issues and Small Business and Economic Development committees.
Faircloth is self-employed, operating a small business consulting firm. He is married to Heather and they have four children and two grandchildren.
He had filed pre-candidacy papers Aug. 31, but did not declare an office
Incumbent Treasurer John D. Perdue, a Democrat, has filed pre-candidacy papers to run for re-election.
“During the campaign, we will be planning many listening tours around the state to get the input of the people and what we can do to better serve them,” Faircloth said.
