GLEN DALE, W.Va. — The West Virginia Health Care Authority has approved West Virginia United Health System’s $15 million acquisition of Reynolds Memorial Hospital.
Reynolds officials announced in late February that a letter of intent had been issued to join the health system, which is based in Morgantown. The 90-bed acute care facility in Glen Dale and the health system signed a management agreement which took effect Feb. 26.
James L. Pitrolo Jr., chairman of the state Health Care Authority, said the agency issued a certificate of need to West Virginia United Health System for the acquisition. He said the capital expenditure associated with the proposal was $15 million.
Dr. David Hess, CEO of Reynolds Memorial and a graduate of the West Virginia University School of Medicine, has said the change will ensure the health of the community and of the hospital.
“You can’t imagine what this hospital already means to Glen Dale. We’ve been around more than 100 years and want to be around 100 more. We offer great jobs, and our employees have a passion for the community,” Hess said. “Becoming part of the West Virginia United Health System means that we will be able to offer tertiary care from the state’s premier academic medical center to enhance our care of patients throughout the Ohio Valley.”
The West Virginia United Health System, anchored by Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, is a statewide health system including seven hospitals with 1,450 licensed beds, 12,000 employees, 900 active medical staff and 18 related organizations.
In addition to Ruby, other West Virginia United Health System member hospitals in the state include United Hospital Center in Bridgeport, Potomac Valley Hospital in Keyser, Berkeley Medical Center in Martinsburg, Jefferson Medical Center in Ranson and Camden Clark Medical Center in Parkersburg. It also operates Garrett Regional Medical Center in Oakland, Md.
