WV Senate Finance Committee approves correction officers pay raise

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The Senate Finance Committee quickly approved on Friday a bill to give corrections officers pay raises. It then spent about an hour hashing over a bill to end windmill tax breaks.

The corrections bill is HB 4142.It gives three annual raises of $2,000 each to employees of the Division of Corrections, Division of Juvenile Services and the Regional Jail and Correctional Facility Authority. It covers corrections officers, corrections trainers, parole officers, and those who work at a correctional centor or complex, a regional jail, a juvenile center prison.

The windmill bill, SB 523, proposes to change how windmills are valued, to do away with a tax break established in 2001.
