CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WV News) — West Virginia officials joined the nation in mourning President Jimmy Carter after his passing Sunday at age 100.
The one-term president and Nobel laureate, who spent his post-presidency years engaged in charitable and altruistic efforts, was remembered by state leaders including Sen. Joe Manchin, I-W.Va, Sen. Shelley Moore Capito and Gov. Jim Justice.
“President Jimmy Carter was our 39th President, but he will forever be best remembered for his gentle soul and his dedication to humanitarian efforts,” Manchin said in a social media post.
“He showed us how to care for one another and make the world a better place. Through his volunteerism, President Carter showed a kindness to all humans that should serve as a model for all of us. He was a great husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and he was a distinguished humanitarian and American.”
