CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Gov. Jim Justice, who will soon head to Washington as the state’s next U.S. senator, said he supports widespread access to weight-loss medications like Wegovy and Ozempic.

On Tuesday, the Biden administration proposed expanding coverage of weight-loss medications to some eligible Medicare and Medicaid patients, a move that could allow millions of Americans to access the drugs.

Justice, during a press briefing Tuesday, said bearing the cost of helping Americans become healthier will save the nation money in the long run.

“I would be a proponent of doing everything we can to be able to expand (access to) these drugs that you’re talking about to everybody,” he said. “At the end of the day, it will save us tremendous amounts of money.”

The governor said he is currently taking Ozempic and can attest to its efficacy.
