PARKERSBURG, W.Va. — The West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission has issued a notice to administrators and coaches across the state, stating that a trending unsportsmanlike celebration will now result in a technical foul for basketball.
The WVSSAC’s notice is as follows:
“There has recently been a trend of doing a fake pistol (gun) gesture or a bow and arrow action that is an unsportsmanlike behavior. We have issued a memo to all basketball officials to appropriately address this behavior.
These actions should result in a technical foul moving forward for unsportsmanlike behavior.
It is taunting and leads to additional problems within the game. These behaviors do not promote a spirit of good sportsmanship that education-based athletics and the WVSSAC member schools routinely promote.
