Caseworkers and Tzu Chi Meeting One-on-One to Assist
CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The American Red Cross continues to serve communities impacted by the devastating flooding that occurred almost three weeks ago throughout West Virginia.
As of July 13, the American Red Cross — including over 850 Red Cross workers from across the country — have provided more than 2,300 overnight stays, facilitated the delivery of over 194,000 meals and snacks and distributed more than 132,000 bulk items — such as bleach, water and clean-up kits.
Anyone impacted by the June 23 storm’s flooding should visit a Red Cross service delivery site as soon as possible to meet with a caseworker or call the American Red Cross Disaster Hotline at 1-855-224-2490.
On Saturday and Sunday, July 16 and 17, members of the Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation—a world-wide volunteer-based humanitarian organization—will be distributing debit cards to those pre-approved families which suffered damages from flooding. Pre-approved families are those who have received assistance from FEMA and the Red Cross, whose caseworkers will be on hand to assist.
These families should do their best to attend one of the two Tzu Chi sessions as these will be the only opportunities to receive the generous benefits that Tzu Chi has to offer those affected by flooding in West Virginia. Applicants must bring a photo ID and proof of residence. All assistance is in addition to that offered by FEMA and/or the Red Cross. A Red Cross Service Center is where Red Cross Caseworkers meet one-on-one with those impacted by the flooding to provide access to resources and tools to support individual recovery. Disaster recovery is often measured in months and years; and the Red Cross will be here to provide hope, comfort and one-on-one support during that time.
