KINGWOOD, W.Va. (WV News) — Board of Education members have voted to eliminate a full-time Career and Technical Education agriculture position at Preston High School following extensive discussion and public input at their most recent meeting, officials said.
The board had initially discussed the potential reduction in force at a previous meeting. However, they postponed any final decisions to gather more information, officials said.
While the full-time position has been cut, a new full-time split agriculture position will be created to serve both the high school and middle schools, Assistant Superintendent Angellicia Varner said.
No agriculture classes are being eliminated, but due to low enrollment in specific courses such as Ag Mechanics, those classes will not be offered in the upcoming school year, officials said.
“The number of students who signed up for agricultural classes were low enough that a full-time position was no longer needed to cover the number of courses students are enrolled in,” Varner said.
